Melissa Freebody

After seeing the great Brett Whiteley strut his stuff to the music of Dire Straits in the ‘80s, Melissa realised that pursuing art as a vocation was what she really wanted to do.

After ten years of farming life on the Mid North Coast of NSW, Melissa and her family moved to Hawks Nest where she works as an aged care nurse whilst exploring her creative side.

Pastels were an early medium choice and her techniques have developed to incorporate charcoal, watercolour and even coffee into her works.

Melissa has recently discovered ‘Digital Art’ using her iPad as a canvas and a stylus or her finger as a brush.

She has been a finalist in digital art shows in the United States and South Korea.

She has been commended for her work by Gregory Wellman the winner of the 2013 Sky Arts Portrait prize in the United Kingdom.

“It’s in my studio, listening to Dire Straits, I let loose my creative soul”.
